Thanks to spyware sucks and dynamoo for helping us catch some bad ads.
Turns out that we were unknowingly hosting a campaign that was distributing malware – it has since been removed from our network.
The problem with running third party ad tags, regardless of the advertiser, is that there is no control with what ads are actually being trafficked. An advertiser may bring a campaign advertising a strong brand that any publisher would want to run only to swap the banner to something malicious at a set time of the day. While this is a rare occurrence it is certainly something we’ve had to deal with in the past.
The problem unfortunately is that malvertisers are using increasingly more advanced tactics to keep ad networks such as Bootcamp Media in the dark in terms of how they are distributing malware.
With the help of the community, Bootcamp Media will continue its efforts to identify and remove potentially malaicious advertisers from rotation. We encourage discussion and feedback with regards to malvertising and with the help of the community, 2010 will be the year to bring this type of activity to an end.
We appreciate your support and will continue to bring our renowned services to our global client base of advertiser and publishers.
